Volkswagen of America, Inc. today reported that August marked a 21 percent increase in year-to-date sales for their entire line of vehicles. August 2010 sales decreased 7.9 percent when compared with the same time last year, which included historic sales as part of the launch of the U.S. government’s “cash for clunkers” program.

Charleston / Wolfsburg, August 12, 2010 – Cummins MerCruiser Diesel (CMD), a supplier of marine propulsion solutions, and Volkswagen concluded a partnership today (Thursday) to develop and supply marine engines.
Volkswagen of America, Inc. today reported July 2010 sales of 23,880 total units, for a 16 percent increase over July 2009, and its thirteenth consecutive month of sales growth. For the year-to-date, Volkswagen’s sales have risen 27.5% versus the same timeframe in 2009. With the exception of last August’s “Cash for Clunkers” sales, July marked the best sales month for Volkswagen of America since December 2005.
This weekend, Andy Lee, a Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup alumni and current Series driving instructor, will join the Scirocco R Cup field at Brands Hatch in England in order to compete in Round Six of the 2010 season.
Before this weekend, Jarvis Gennari had not found Victory Circle in the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup, but as he heads out of Wisconsin, the Series rookie has two wins to his name. Not only did the Boca Raton native find victory yesterday, but he also duplicated that feat this morning at Road America after coming all the way from a starting position of 14th.
Series rookie, Jarvis Gennari, earned his first Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup victory yesterday at Road America after an exciting battle with Chris Wehrheim, the event’s polesitter and eventual second-place finisher. Gennari and Wehrheim swapped the lead all afternoon, but the Boca Raton, FL native was able to regain the lead on the white flag lap to take the win.
The Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup conducted both of its weekend qualifying sessions today at historic Road America in preparation of Rounds 7 & 8 taking place tomorrow and Sunday. While Qualifying 1 took place under ideal weather conditions, this afternoon’s severe weather cut the second session short.
Volkswagen of America, Inc. has announced that two guest drivers will participate in this weekend’s Jetta TDI Cup action at Road America. While both come to the Series with backgrounds in racing, their experience in the industry is very different.
