Rolling Stone Announces Music Lineup for Volkswagen Rock & Roll Super Bowl Fan Tailgate Party
Jane’s Addiction, The Roots to perform, Pete Wentz to DJ at Rolling Stone’s Volkswagen Rock & Roll Fan Tailgate Party on Sunday, February 5, in Indianapolis
New York, NY -
Rolling Stone announced today the all-star music lineup for the Volkswagen Rock & Roll Super Bowl Fan Tailgate Party, as the host on Sunday, February 5, in Indianapolis for football fans going to the game or those wanting to be in downtown Indianapolis to take in the excitement.
Starting at 1 p.m., Jane’s Addiction and The Roots will take the stage and Pete Wentz will DJ at The Crane Bay, a renovated industrial warehouse located just two blocks from Lucas Oil Stadium – walking distance to the big game and with on-site private parking.
“Because this is Volkswagen's third consecutive year advertising during the Super Bowl, we saw the Fan Tailgate Party as an opportunity to celebrate the big game with our core audience,” said Tim Mahoney, Chief Product and Marketing Officer for Volkswagen. “The success of last year's spot, ‘The Force,’ has created great momentum for the Volkswagen brand, thanks in large part to our fans, and we plan to continue that momentum in 2012.”
Along with the platinum-selling musical acts, celebrity chef John Besh will be on-hand to cook regional specials and classic tailgate food. Celebrating football fans of both teams and the local residents of Indianapolis, the party will feature a premium bar, interactive entertainment and venue experiences that celebrate the fan in all of us.
The Super Bowl Fan Tailgate Party kicks off a year-long celebration in which Rolling Stone and Volkswagen have teamed up to offer special access and unique experiences for both Volkswagen and music fans at major music and sporting events throughout the year. The program will run across multiple media channels and will include a large social and digital presence.
An additional sponsor of the Sunday tailgate event is Mio. Mio is a unique new liquid water enhancer that lets you create your own dream beverage. A selection of flavors will be available to guests throughout the party.
Jane’s Addiction, formed in 1985, paved the way for alternative rock bands and has sold more than seven million records in the U.S. alone. On their first proper studio album, Nothing's Shocking, trademark song “Jane Says” charged up the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and the album was certified platinum, grabbing a GRAMMY nod for Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance. In 1990, front man Perry Farrell and his band mates formed the Lollapalooza music festival as a farewell tour, and it has since become one of the most popular music festivals in the world and recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. Guitarist Dave Navarro is also a well-known TV personality, hosting two seasons of the CBS show Rock Star and starring on the MTV series Til Death Do Us Part.
The Roots is the brainchild of childhood friends Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson and Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter. The hip-hop crew began its career playing bucket drums and free-styling on the streets. Named one of the greatest live acts by Rolling Stone, the group’s career has evolved to include a weekly gig as the house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, hosting sold-out jam sessions across the country, collaborating on new works for contemporary performances, and consistently churning out GRAMMY-nominated albums. The Roots’ most recent release, undun, is the group’s first conceptually based album and 13th major-label release.
Pete Wentz, a musician, entrepreneur and activist, is the bassist and lyricist of the GRAMMY-nominated band Fall Out Boy, which over the past few years has released two multi-platinum albums that spawned the chart-topping hits "Sugar, We're Going Down," "Dance, Dance," "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs" and "This Ain't A Scene, It’s An Arms Race," among others. After riding to multiplatinum, global fame over the last 10 years, Wentz needed to do something completely different – which lead to the creation of his new project, Black Cards. Black Cards' music draws from Wentz’s experience on the DJ circuit over the last several years.
The tailgate is the second part of Rolling Stone’s Super Bowl weekend celebration. The festivities kick off Saturday with The BACARDI Bash. Guests will enjoy top-shelf cocktails and performances by LMFAO, Gym Class Heroes, Lupe Fiasco and Cobra Starship.
Tickets are available now through The Crane Bay by calling (317) 876-3338 or going online to www.rollingstonerockweekend.com.
