VOLKSWAGEN ISSUES VOLUNTARY RECALL
Dec 30, 2014
Herndon, VA - Volkswagen considers the safety and satisfaction of its consumers and passengers a top priority. As such, Volkswagen of America today notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it will be issuing a voluntary safety recall affecting the low-beam headlights on certain 2015 model year Volkswagen Jetta vehicles.
The recall affects approximately 50,000 Volkswagen Jetta vehicles from the 2015 model year. It is possible that certain affected Volkswagen Jetta vehicles with halogen headlights contain software within the control module that will turn off the low-beam headlights when the high beams are activated. This causes the light output from the headlights to be too low according to FMVSS regulations. Reduced lighting at the front of the vehicle can affect the driver’s vision in driving conditions where illumination is beneficial, and may increase the risk of overlooking obstacles in the roadway, which could result in a crash.
To fix the issue, Volkswagen will notify all known owners of affected vehicles and will update the software within the affected control module. This work will be performed for customers free of charge.
No accidents or injuries related to this issue have been reported. Volkswagen will notify all owners of affected vehicles and will instruct them to arrange for an appointment with an authorized Volkswagen dealer.
