Nov 28, 2017
Herndon, VA (November 28, 2017) – Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (VWGoA) today announced that it has been honored by the Fairfax County Park Foundation with the 2017 Eakin Philanthropy Award. The award recognizes VWGoA’s material and financial contributions that support and fund critical programs and resources across the Fairfax County Park system, particularly the Parks and Communities Together (PACT) program.
“Giving back and improving the communities where we live and work is deeply rooted in the culture of Volkswagen Group of America,” said Machelle Williams, Senior Director of Diversity and CSR for VWGoA, who accepted the award during the Elly Doyle Park Services Awards ceremony in Fairfax, Va. “This honor shows our commitment as a company to being a good corporate citizen, and reflects the passion our employees across the country have for volunteering and helping those in need.”
Since 2011, VWGoA has supported the Fairfax County Park Authority’s PACT program with over $57,000 in total donations, specifically to support scholarship opportunities for local children in need living in shelters and temporary housing to attend summer camp. This past year alone, VWGoA’s financial commitment helped give 56 children in the County the chance to experience summer camp.
The Eakin Philanthropy Award honors LeRoy Eakin, Sr. who in 1951, gifted Fairfax County 14 acres of land that later became the County’s first park.
