Volkswagen’s all-new compact sedan given top marks for user experience 

  • 2018 Wards 10 Best UX awards highlight vehicles with enjoyable and easy-to-operate technology and driver assistance solutions

Herndon, VA  (October 2, 2018) — Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced today that the all-new, 2019 Jetta has been named to Wards 10 Best UX list. The awards, which were presented today at the third annual WardsAuto User Experience Conference, highlight vehicles with enjoyable and easy-to-operate technology and driver assistance solutions.

For the third year in a row, WardsAuto editors recognized exemplary user experiences with its 10 Best UX competition to honor new and significantly improved vehicles for their driver-assistance technologies, connectivity, digital displays, voice-activation systems, intuitive controls and infotainment. Editors evaluated and scored 25 vehicles available in the U.S. with all-new or re-engineered UX features such as display screens, interfaces or apps. There was no price cap, but overall value was a consideration.

WardsAutos editors noted that despite its modest price, “the new Jetta employs upscale materials and leaves no indication that shoppers on a budget need to settle for less. The Digital Cockpit reconfigurable instrument cluster appears for the first time in a Jetta, delivering breathtaking graphics, mapping and functionality and typically found until now in much more expensive Audi and Porsche luxury cars.”

Editors also called out Jetta’s informative and intuitive central display, simple Bluetooth® phone pairing and text-to-voice messaging, as well as available high-end features like ventilated front seats, BeatsAudio® premium sound system and a full suite of driver-assistance features.

All Jetta models are equipped with the MIB II infotainment system, which not only creates the foundation for the next generation of Volkswagen’s Car-Net® connected vehicle services platform, but also offers one of the most comprehensive suites of connected vehicle services and features available in the automotive industry today. Capacitive touchscreens offer SD card and USB multimedia interfaces, as well as Bluetooth® technology for compatible devices. Jetta SEL and SEL Premium models present drivers with a 10.25-inch fully-digital instrument cluster with the advanced Volkswagen Digital Cockpit system.

Volkswagen is committed to driving the development of more connected and intelligent vehicles, and the Car-Net® connectivity system is a major element in achieving that goal. Features available through Car-Net are divided into three key areas: “App-Connect,” “Security & Service,” and “Guide & Inform.”

Car-Net App-Connect smartphone integration for compatible devices is standard on all Jetta models. App-Connect offers users the ability to run select smartphone apps directly on the vehicle’s display through services such as Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™ and MirrorLink®. 

Equipped on Jetta SEL and SEL Premium models, Car-Net Security & Service is a suite of elements that provides security features and also allows owners to access their VW remotely through vw.com/carnet as well as a smartphone app. Available VW Car-Net Security & Service features include Automatic Crash Notification, Manual Emergency Call, Roadside Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Location Assistance, Family Guardian speed and boundary alerts, diagnostics and maintenance information, and remote vehicle access—including remote door lock and unlock, remote honk and flash of lights, last parked location information, and remote status check (doors and windows). Consumers are able to send a location from their connected smart device to the factory-installed compatible navigation system on select models. For consumers who prefer a more personal touch, agent destination assist is also available.

VW Car-Net Guide & Inform is standard on Jetta SEL Premium and offers an enhanced navigation and infotainment experience for VW consumers. Volkswagen has incorporated technologies that enhance existing navigation offerings while adding an additional level of information that empowers consumers. The in-vehicle navigation system features fuel prices, sports scores, movie information and weather data as part of the three-month SiriusXM® Travel Link trial. VW customers will also enjoy real-time traffic information and a complimentary three-month SiriusXM Traffic trial.

Jetta is the only vehicle in its class to offer the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, which is standard on all models. This system builds on the premise that a collision is rarely a single, instantaneous action, but rather a series of events that follow the initial impact—the most significant of which can cause additional collisions. The Automatic Post-Collision Braking System is designed to address this by applying the brakes when a primary collision is detected by the airbag sensors, thus helping reduce residual kinetic energy and, in turn, the chance of additional damage.

The Jetta offers a standard rearview camera and number of available driver-assistance systems, including Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist), Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping System (Lane Assist), and High Beam Control (Light Assist).
